Parents Weekend Cancellation

NOTICE: Cancellation of Parents Weekend Program

Sent on July 8, 2022

Dear TAF Community,

Thank you for your support of TAF.

Earlier today, we released important updates to our COVID-19 protocol to help meet our goal of a safe TAF 2022 Summer Conference. If you did not receive our email announcement outlining the modified requirements for testing, please refer to our full message here on our website.

As part of these critical changes, we decided to cancel all in-person weekend programming, including our dedicated Parents Program and TAF Night visitors. Weekend attendees will not be admitted on campus, with the exception of camper pick-up.

If you registered for the Parents / Weekend Program, we kindly request that you fill out this form by Sunday, July 17, so that we can refund any amounts pre-paid for the Parents Program and account for return transportation options for your TAFer(s).

If you have any questions regarding refunds, please contact Conference Director Andrea Lin at andrea.lin@tafworld.org.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this causes in your summer plans.

Transportation Notices:

  • For parents with registered campers still attending TAF 2022, in-person camper drop-off (July 24) and pick-up (July 31) is allowed. Please note: Any parent entering campus for drop-off will need to also  undergo our updated COVID Pre-Screening Protocol to meet modified testing requirements.
  • For parents traveling by car for camper drop-off/pick-up, we will have a designated “rest stop” area in a separate building on campus for parents. More details and instructions on this process will be shared before TAF.
  • Return bus options are still available for parents who may need to arrange alternative transportation plans for their camper(s).
  • If you have any questions regarding transportation issues, please contact Transportation Director Harmony Chiu at transportation@tafworld.org.

COVID Risk Considerations:

It is with a heavy heart that our Senior staff and leadership team made this decision with significant consultation from the medical team and advisors, and we empathize with any TAF Families who may be disappointed with this news. Protecting our TAF community remains at the forefront of our planning and protocols, as we face evolving risks from the easily transmissible COVID Omicron subvariants. As TAF President Ho Chie Tsai previously explained, the latest studies and reports show that due to the Omicron subvariant transmissibility, we want to prevent breakthrough cases and reinfection. While the vaccines still prevent serious hospitalization and deaths, we are concerned for TAF households that include older adults, immunocompromised individuals, and the youngest (future TAFers!) who are only recently eligible for vaccines. For more guidance and background on our conference precautions, please refer to the COVID-19 Health & Safety plan on our website.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding our COVID protocols, please feel free to contact our Medical Director, Karena Woo karena.woo@tafworld.org or TAF President Ho Chie Tsai hochie.tsai@tafworld.org.

Full Week Medical Volunteers:

As we continue to keep our community’s safety top of mind, we are seeking volunteer parents to serve on our Medical Team exclusively (even part time as part of a remote work situation from TAF). No prior medical experience is required. Please email medical@tafworld.org if you’re interested.

We apologize again for this change. Thank you for your patience and understanding. We sincerely hope we can welcome you back to the Parent/Weekend Program in the future.

Warmly,
Andrea Lin
Conference Director
