*Additional information about the Speaker Sessions:

  • "Part I: Communicative Leadership" - Leadership, connecting and serving others, begins with communication. Speech is the essence of who you are. How you speak to others determines the quality and fiber of your relationships. Get submerged in understanding how communication works, discovering who you are, and how best to connect with those who matter most in your life.

  • "Part II: Empathy & Understanding" - Better knowing yourself and the communicative process, we now move onto the complexities and confusion that too often arise in communicating with others. To lead others, we must first not only understand, but also empathize with them. Discover and discuss multiple perspectives on school, socializing, and other parent-child related topics, and how cultural and generational gaps come into play.
  • "Part III: Leadership Initiative" - When communicating with others, you only have one chance to speak your first word, verbally and nonverbally. Leadership initiative is strategic of the situation, and investigative of your-self. Learn to create the building blocks in becoming a “better” leader as a parent and person. Learn to create the communicative relationship to help your children better understand themselves, and thus become better servant leaders as well.

About the Speaker: John D. Lin

John D. Lin joined the TAF family at the age of nine and is back for his 12th year. Having fulfilled his life long dream to serve as TAF JH speaker last year, he is enthralled to return as the first TAF Parent Program Speaker. Since TAF 2010, John D. has become a Lecturer of Rhetoric and Speech at St. John's University (Staten Island). He is humbled to finally start the Cute Grandma
Foundation, a non profit organization dedicated to strengthening the bond between grandparents and grandchildren through the power of speech. John D. believes that none of his success would be possible without his family, friends, and TAF. Speech is who you are. Serving as a full time trainer to help people of all ages reach their prime, John D. asks: “In four months, who will you be?”

F.A.Q.

Q: Why should I attend?
A: Over the years, we heard so many kids wished their parents could come and grow with them.

Q: If I can not attend the whole weekend, may I attend the TAF night on Saturday evening?
A: Yes

Q: What is TAF Night?
A: TAF Night is a tradition at TAF. It takes place on Saturday Night, the final evening at TAF, and showcases performances by all TAF campers. Typically, each program will prepare at least one performance, usually featuring singing, dancing, and/or other cultural aspects. The event ends with a slide show including photos from throughout the week.

Q: Do I have to stay in the Manchester dorm?
A: Due to the communal bathroom situation (and that womens and mens bathrooms are located on different floors), some parents choose to book their own hotels around campus instead. Manchester College address is 604 E. College Avenue, North Manchester, IN 46962.
