Grades 1 - 5
The TAF Juniors are the youngest campers here in age, and the most valuable assets, for they represent our Taiwanese community's hopes and dreams. In every sense of the word, they are the Foundation from which our proud community has flourished and the source of our current and future leaders. Our theme this year is leadership, where we will encourage our children to explore their leadership potential and how their decisions can impact others in the community as well as themselves.
We believe in the uniqueness of every child and we see that it is our job to bring out their light to share with the world. We hope to empower our campers to explore the differences in their perspectives, to recognize their ability to affect change, and to value the gifts that they possess. We do this through intentional involvement with the kids—whether it's through small group discussions, workshops, bedtime stories, or free time, we train our counselors to be pro-active in caring for the development of every camper that walks through our door. Not only do they listen to the words that children are saying, but they understand the story behind the words. Along with their counselors and peers, juniors are able to communicate their thoughts, explore their significance, evaluate their everyday choices, acknowledge their uniqueness, and internalize the leadership qualities that they will carry with them throughout their lives. Most of all, TAF Juniors is a place to be yourself and to know that being a Taiwanese-American kid rocks!
What a Camper Can Expect
* 3 well-rounded meals a day, mandatory daily showers and teeth brushing checkups. (sorry kids, but we don't want your roommate to faint from stinkiness)
* fun outdoor activities and games that will naturally drag the kids away from their Nintendo DS.
* plenty of team-building and making new friends. (even if you don't want to make new friends, it always happens)
* being matched with an older camper that you can hang out with for a week!
* stimulating workshops that will explore the theme of leadership.
* super fun activities about Taiwanse culture and history that will make them want to go back and visit – even on their summer break!
F.A.Q.
Q: I'm worried about my kids. I surely won't hear from them for a whole week! What if something happens?
A: Your program directors, Emmeline and Sherry (that's us!), have our cell phones on us at all times.
Emmeline: 314-740-8932
Sherry Lin: 630-310-6885
We're even one step ahead of you; we have mandatory "Call Home" nights for our campers!
Q: My child has never been away from home for so long, what do I do!
A: You can easily check in on them on the TAF Blog. We update DAILY (with pictures!) during the week of the camp. You can find the link here. http://blog.tafworld.org/
Q: My kid is kind of dirty, and doesn’t really like showering or brushing their teeth.
A: Daily showers and teeth brushing are mandatory; plus, everyone else will be doing it. Peer pressure is great motivation.
Q:What kind of people am I going to be sending my kid to be kickin' it with?
A: Taiwanese American kids with parents like you. They are responsible, curious, friendly, energetic, and smart!
