College Program

College Students

TAF College seeks to build a strong, adult Taiwanese-American community serving the needs of a rising second generation. Recognizing the unique experiences of college-aged Taiwanese Americans in their transition to adulthood, this program will provide participants with the opportunity to explore their multiple identities, values, and aspirations through diverse speaker sessions, workshops, and activities. Participants will implement projects while working with other TAF programs, developing leadership skills, and building lasting friendships with people from all over the country. The program also seeks to leverage skills and knowledge from other conferences and classes that participants have taken and put them to work in addressing challenges and opportunities facing Taiwanese American organizations and communities.

The mission of TAF College is to guide Taiwanese-Americans in leading purposeful lives by challenging them to think critically about choices and empowering them to make meaningful contributions to society. We welcome high school graduates, college, grad-school, and beyond to join.

F.A.Q.

Q: I've already taken classes in Asian American studies and I've been to 100 ITASA's. What can TAF do for me?

A: TAF College gives you a chance to take the skills and the knowledge from your past experiences and utilize them in practical and immediately actionable situations working on TAF projects that will be used during the week and beyond the conference week.

Q: Aren't I too old to be starting this sort of thing?
A: Everyone can always be learning something and giving something back. Even if you're older, this week is an opportunitiy for you to share your experience and maybe practice and learn new things.

Q: Is this a cult? Why do TAF people always stay together?
A: Hehe. No, we're not a cult. One of TAF's greatest strengths, beyond the conference programming and content from the week, is its network. Even though a week seems short, you rapidly develop close, lifelong relationships with many people. Even with complete strangers, in many people's experiences (mine included), having TAF in common is an instant bond.

Q: Who can I contact if I have more questions?
A: The College Program Directors are Kevin Yau and Nancy Wu. Please email all inquiries to them at tafcollege@gmail.com.
